Paris Saint-Germain have contacted Celta Vigo to gather information on centre-back Javi Rodríguez, 23, according to Spanish media. PSG’s board are not looking to complete an immediate transfer, but are scouting ahead to anticipate the renewal of their defensive line.

A product of Celta Vigo’s academy, Javi Rodríguez has established himself as an undisputed starter since the 2023-24 season. His rapid progression earned him a place in Spain’s squad for 2026 World Cup preparations, and he made his first appearance for La Roja in June against Iraq. His contract runs until 2028, with a release clause set at €40 million.

This profile fits PSG’s new direction, which now favours identifying players with strong potential rather than recruiting established stars. The lead makes sense given the uncertainties surrounding PSG’s centre-back position: Marquinhos, a club cornerstone for over a decade and under contract until 2028, is approaching the end of his career, while Illia Zabarnyi, signed last summer, failed to fully convince during his first season in the capital.

Paris will not be alone in this pursuit, however. Everton, Fulham and Newcastle are also monitoring the Spanish defender, a sign that his stock on the European market continues to rise.
