The PSG-OL match from Ligue 1 matchday 8, scheduled for Sunday evening at Parc des Princes, is threatened with postponement. The Paris police prefecture could decide to reschedule the fixture due to an unprecedented dual security challenge this weekend.

Two factors are combining to make the situation untenable: a new weekend of protests expected in the capital and the holding of an NFL regular season game at Stade de France, which also requires a massive deployment of law enforcement. Faced with this logistical pressure, authorities are considering a 24-hour postponement, which would place the match on Monday, October 26 — the evening of the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London.

This scenario is not unprecedented for PSG. Last season, at the same time, Luis Enrique’s side had already suffered a similar postponement, which resulted in a defeat at Marseille (1-0).

The security tension extends beyond the Paris clash alone. Since the protests of October 17 and the violence that followed, authorities fear an even stronger response this weekend. The Interior Minister does not rule out radical measures depending on how Saturday, October 24, unfolds. In Marseille, the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture also says it is ready to intervene before OM-Le Havre, scheduled for Sunday at 17:15 at Vélodrome.

The Professional Football League has already confirmed two postponements for this weekend: Toulouse-Troyes in Ligue 1 is moved to Sunday at 17:15, while Montpellier-Red Star in Ligue 2 is rescheduled for Monday evening at 20:45. The decision regarding PSG-OL, the most anticipated fixture of the day, remains pending the evolution of the social context.
