Graham Potter took aim at an unnamed former club on Thursday, branding it a “dysfunctional place” in the comments of an Instagram post — his most pointed public remarks since leaving West Ham United in September 2025.

The 51-year-old, now head coach of Sweden, posted an image of himself doing pilates, which prompted a fan to joke that he hoped Potter was “better at Pilates than you were a football manager.” Potter replied: “I’ll try not to do Pilates in a dysfunctional place and I will be ok,” accompanied by a flexed bicep emoji.

It remains unclear which club he was referring to. Potter managed Chelsea from September 2022, losing 11 of his 31 games before being sacked inside eight months. He then returned to the Premier League with West Ham in January 2025, but was dismissed in September after the Hammers won just one of their opening five league games of the new season. West Ham were subsequently relegated at the end of the 2024/25 campaign — the same season Potter departed — while Chelsea finished 10th, 13 points clear of the drop zone, during his tenure.

The exchange did not stop there. When another fan asked whether Potter minded the money he earned at those clubs, he replied: “absolutely not.” A West Ham supporter who wrote “You got us relegated, you mug” received two laughing emojis in response.

Potter had previously built his reputation at Brighton, where he spent three years and guided the Seagulls to their highest-ever top-flight finish in 2022 before departing for Stamford Bridge. Chelsea have since cycled through eight managers in three years, with Xabi Alonso now in charge.

After almost two years out of management following his Chelsea exit, Potter’s West Ham stint lasted just eight months. He was appointed Sweden head coach shortly after and led the national side out of the group stage at the 2026 World Cup in North America before a 3-0 defeat to France ended their tournament.
