Nico O’Reilly is available for Manchester City’s trip to Old Trafford on Sunday after recovering from the back problem that forced him out of last week’s Coventry match in the warm-up, while Jeremy Doku has been ruled out of the derby for a fifth consecutive game.

O’Reilly did not travel to Porto for City’s 2-0 Champions League win midweek, but head coach Enzo Maresca confirmed the homegrown midfielder is “100 per cent available” for one of the season’s most high-profile fixtures.

Doku, by contrast, continues to be managed carefully. The Belgian winger has not featured since the Community Shield after feeling calf tightness in the first half against Arsenal, and Maresca said he “needs more days” before returning to action — a setback that stretches his absence beyond the opening four matches of the campaign.

City arrive at Old Trafford in strong form. Maresca has won all three of his Premier League games since succeeding Pep Guardiola, and the midweek victory in Porto extended that unbeaten run into Europe. The Blues will be looking to maintain a perfect start across both competitions.

Manchester United, meanwhile, sit on four points from their opening three league games under permanent manager Michael Carrick, who was appointed after initially taking temporary charge when Ruben Amorim left the club. United did win this fixture last season during Carrick’s first spell in interim charge, giving them a psychological foothold, but Sunday’s match arrives with considerably more pressure on the home side to deliver a result.
