Nakamura joins Lyon on €1M fixed fee with €19M in potential bonuses

Keito Nakamura is officially an Olympique Lyonnais player. The Japan international, arriving from Reims, has signed a contract through 2030 with the Gones as part of an unconventional financial arrangement.

While the transfer was valued at 20 million euros, Lyon announced it paid only one million euros in fixed fees. The deal includes 19 million euros in variable bonuses, as well as a capped interest of 12.5% on any potential profit from a future resale. According to Hugo Guillemet, L’Équipe’s Lyon specialist, some of these bonuses are easily achievable while others are not. The real cost of the transfer should be around 10 million euros.

This structure allows Lyon to spread its spending over time in a financially constrained context. Nakamura arrived as a “late window signing”: the club could only finalize his recruitment after completing the departure of Malick Fofana, sold to Sunderland following a particularly drawn-out process. The delay imposed by that sale caused the club to miss the ordinary transfer window, which closed Tuesday evening at 8 p.m.

The Japanese winger is set to occupy the wing left vacant by the Belgian. At 24 years old, Nakamura had an impressive season at Reims in Ligue 1, confirming his status as one of the most interesting attacking profiles in French football.
