Monaco crushes Gornik Zabrze 4-1 and secures Conference League spot
AS Monaco dominated Gornik Zabrze 4-1 at the Stade Louis-II on Thursday, confirming their first-leg success in Poland (2-3). The Monégasque club becomes the seventh Ligue 1 representative in European competition this season.
AS Monaco qualified for the group stage of the Ligue Europa Conférence by crushing Gornik Zabrze 4-1 at the Stade Louis-II on August 27, after already winning the first leg in Poland 2-3.
The Monégasques left no doubt about the outcome of the two-legged tie. Brunner opened the scoring in the 30th minute, Coulibaly doubled the lead before half-time (43rd), then Golovin sealed it early in the second half (50th). Biereth closed out the scoring in the 78th minute, before Antiste — a former Toulouse FC player — reduced the deficit for the visitors late in the match (83rd).
With this qualification, Monaco becomes the seventh Ligue 1 club competing on the continental stage this season, alongside PSG, Lens and Lille in the Ligue des Champions, as well as OM, OL and Rennes in the Ligue Europa. ASM will learn their group-stage opponent the following day, following the draw held in the Principality.
Monaco’s starting XI featured Hradecky in goal, a defence made up of Vanderson, Sané, Dier and Nazinho, a three-man midfield with Camara, Zakaria and Golovin, and an attacking trio formed by Coulibaly, Brunner and Idumbo.
