Johan Micoud ended his twelve-year presence on L’Équipe channel this summer, where he had been a regular consultant on the show L’Équipe du Soir since 2014. His departure comes as part of an editorial and budget overhaul that led to the non-renewal of many commentators.

Contrary to what the context might have suggested, the former French international clarified that his exit was by mutual agreement. « We didn’t agree on what would come next. I had the impression of losing that human side in the work that I appreciate. It’s not very serious, we said goodbye to each other », he told Ouest-France.

It was Marc Las and Jérôme Cazadieu, two former L’Équipe channel figures who have moved to Ligue 1+, who reached out to him shortly after. « When they found out, they contacted me and we talked. They know me very well », Micoud explained.

Since the start of the 2026-2027 season, the former Girondins de Bordeaux and Werder Brême playmaker has worked as a commentator and consultant on Ligue 1+. A transition he describes with enthusiasm: « I’m lucky to commentate matches where there are often twists and turns. I love the teams I work with, there’s a very human side to it. I enjoy getting back on the pitch, rediscovering the stadiums. Some weren’t finished the last time I was commentating. I’m having a blast. »

Micoud had previously worked as a commentator during the 2021-2022 season on Prime Video before continuing his career as a television consultant.
