Harry Kane claimed the 2026 Ballon d’Or, finishing ahead of Kylian Mbappé and Lamine Yamal in a particularly competitive year. The Bayern Munich striker’s victory immediately sparked debate, with no clear favorite emerging this year. But it was another issue that quickly poisoned the evening.

On social media, numerous users posted disparaging comments about the physical appearance of Kate Goodland, Kane’s wife. These attacks, impossible to quantify precisely, targeted a woman who never sought the spotlight.

Yet it was to her that Kane dedicated his trophy during his acceptance speech, his eyes glistening. “My wife, my best friend. We have certainly been through ups and downs,” the Three Lions captain said. “You are my greatest support. I even felt like you wanted this award more than I did. You always want the best for me, you make sacrifices to help me achieve my dreams, and I know they are yours too. So none of this would be possible without you. This is a trophy we celebrate together, not me alone.”

Harry and Kate have known each other since childhood. Educated at the same London school from age four, they appear together in a photo taken in 2005 at the opening of David Beckham’s academy — they were 12 years old at the time. The former Tottenham player has often stressed the importance of meeting the mother of their four children — Ivy, Vivienne, Louis and Henry — before fame changed his life.
