Threatening weather conditions over Azteca Stadium could force FIFA to revise the kickoff time for the Round of 16 match between Mexico and England, scheduled for Sunday evening. According to several journalists covering the 2026 World Cup, the governing body is considering moving the kickoff six hours earlier, with a start time of 20:00 (French time) instead of 2:00 a.m. in the night from Sunday to Monday.

The threat is not without precedent in this tournament. On the second day of the group stage, France-Iraq was interrupted for just over two hours in Philadelphia due to storms, offering a first glimpse of the climate risks weighing on this edition being held in North America.

The Mexico-England case is not the only one affected. The other Round of 16 match scheduled for Sunday, Brazil-Norway, could also be rescheduled. Its kickoff initially set for 22:00 (French time) risks overlapping with the match between Mexico and England if it is moved up — a situation FIFA would be seeking to avoid.

Less than two days before the clash, no official decision had yet been announced by FIFA at the time this information was published. A possible schedule change of this magnitude would represent a major logistical constraint for supporters and the teams involved.
