Galatasaray transfer claims dismissed as Odegaard remains committed to Arsenal
Reports linking Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard to Galatasaray have been firmly denied, with sources close to the player insisting his agent was never in Istanbul and that the 27-year-old is 'very happy' at the club.
Reports linking Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard to Galatasaray are entirely without foundation, sources close to the player have confirmed. Turkish media claimed the Norwegian’s agent, Bjorn Kvarme, had been spotted in Istanbul — but those close to Odegaard say Kvarme has in fact been in the United States, where the midfielder has been representing Norway at the World Cup.
Odegaard is said to be ‘very happy’ at Arsenal, and the club are equally satisfied with his contributions throughout their title-winning Premier League campaign. Manager Mikel Arteta has consistently dismissed captaincy speculation and repeatedly reaffirmed his backing for the 27-year-old, while Odegaard’s teammates unanimously voted to retain him as skipper.
On the international stage, Odegaard has been in outstanding form. He became just the third player since 1966 to register an assist in each of his first three World Cup appearances, underlining his importance to Norway as they prepare to face Brazil in the next round.
The midfielder endured a difficult previous season, battling two separate shoulder complaints and a knee problem that cost him significant time. He also faced a challenge for his place from Eberechi Eze this campaign, yet remained an influential presence whenever fit.
Odegaard also captains Norway, a responsibility he took on a year before assuming the armband at Arsenal — a reflection of the leadership standing he holds at both club and international level.
Should Norway exit the World Cup, Odegaard will begin a summer break extended by his tournament involvement. Arsenal’s pre-season opens on 1 August away to Girona, followed by a fixture against Real Betis in Dublin on 5 August, meaning Odegaard could return to the fold before the end of July.
