Meslier joins Arsenal as third-choice goalkeeper behind Raya and Kepa
Free after losing his place at Leeds United, French goalkeeper Illan Meslier has reached an agreement with Arsenal. He still needs to pass his medical examination before the move is officially confirmed.
Illan Meslier will join Arsenal on a free transfer, according to The Athletic. The 26-year-old French goalkeeper has agreed terms with the London club and is now awaiting his medical examination to complete the move.
Meslier is leaving Leeds United after spending more than a year on the bench, relegated to backup status at the Peacocks. The former France U-21 international did not lack offers: the Gunners provided him with an exit route to the elite.
At Arsenal, the former Lorient player is expected to occupy third place in the goalkeeper hierarchy, behind Spaniard David Raya, the undisputed starter, and Kepa Arrizabalaga, the current number two. Kepa’s situation remains uncertain for next season, however, which could open up rotation opportunities for Meslier.
