Real Madrid raised a club-record €215m from the summer sales of academy graduates, with the proceeds directly financing the first-team rebuild, according to an analysis by The Athletic. The figure represents the largest single-window return from La Fábrica in the club’s history and underlines how the academy has evolved into a major source of transfer revenue.

The headline deal was a €60m renegotiation with Como over Nico Paz, who had originally joined the Italian club in August 2024. Fulham contributed a combined €50m for striker Gonzalo Garcia and midfielder Cesar Palacios, while Liverpool paid €20m for winger Victor Munoz — Madrid received half of that fee after inserting a 50 per cent sell-on clause when Munoz joined Osasuna in 2025. The income helped support the signing of Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig in a deal worth up to €140m including add-ons.

The scale of the revenue reflects years of deliberate planning rather than a single fortunate window. CIES data from October 2025 recorded 58 players trained at Madrid active across 49 professional competitions worldwide. La Fábrica is structured to produce professional footballers broadly, not to guarantee first-team places at a club where senior openings are scarce.

Madrid’s preferred model is to sell graduates while retaining a sell-on clause — often set at 50 per cent — rather than relying on loans. General director Jose Angel Sanchez has shaped that pathway, and Dani Carvajal’s career offers a precedent: sold to Bayer Leverkusen in 2012, he returned to Madrid a year later. A buy-back option exists for Nico Paz, though he chose to remain at Como for at least another season.

Not every prospect was moved on. Centre-back Joan Martinez and winger Daniel Yanez were retained despite attracting outside interest. Madrid also reinvested in Castilla, signing Granada centre-back Oscar Nassei for €2.5m and Racing Santander midfielder Sergio Martinez for €3.5m; the latter is expected to rotate between Castilla and the first team.

The Fulham cluster had a personal dimension: Gonzalo Garcia opted for the move despite reported pressure to stay, with Palacios and Manuel Angel also following former Madrid coach Alvaro Arbeloa to west London. The sales have delivered a record financial return, but whether La Fábrica graduates can carve out consistent roles in the senior squad — even as rotation options — remains an open question.
