Paris Saint-Germain will not sign Laciné Megnan-Pavé this summer. According to journalist Abdellah Boulma, the 16-year-old striker will remain at Montpellier for the upcoming season, despite clear interest from the Parisian club and several other European sides.

The deal was well advanced on PSG’s side. The club had reportedly reached an agreement with the player over a five-year contract and submitted multiple offers to MHSC. Montpellier nonetheless chose to keep its young talent, wanting to guarantee him playing time and a suitable environment for his development.

This refusal illustrates the limits of PSG’s appeal in the French young talent market: even with considerable financial power, the club cannot always outbid the competition. In Megnan-Pavé’s case, that competition could intensify in the coming months.

Born in March 2010, the striker was regularly promoted within Montpellier’s academy before signing his first professional contract at 15. A France U16 international, he reached a new milestone this summer by making his senior debut. In his first professional appearance, he scored against Dijon, immediately confirming the expectations placed on him.

A full season at Montpellier will only strengthen his profile in the eyes of recruiters. PSG, like other European clubs already watching closely, will have to monitor his progress carefully — and accept that the bidding war will intensify.
