Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will be sidelined for several months after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during PSG’s 4-2 victory over FC Barcelona on Tuesday evening in the UEFA Champions League league phase. The Georgian winger left the pitch during the match, joining teammates Ousmane Dembélé and Marquinhos on the injury list after they were also hurt in the same game.

The following day, the former Napoli player posted a lengthy message on social media to express his distress and determination. “It hasn’t been long, but it’s always on my mind: why me actually?” he wrote, before revealing he had prepared for this clash against Barça “more than for any other match before.”

Despite the shock, Kvaratskhelia quickly turned his gaze toward the future. “I am ready to go through these months of work, pain and tears,” he stated, adding that he wanted to “return stronger” for his Georgian people who support him. He concluded by addressing his supporters directly: “I will not let you down and promise you I will not waste a second.”

His teammates Maghnes Akliouche, Warren Zaïre-Emery and Ukrainian international Illia Zabarnyi notably responded to his message. A candidate for the 2026 Ballon d’Or, the Georgian now hopes for a possible return before the end of the season.
