McCourt in the stands at the Vélodrome to launch OM's season against Strasbourg
A rare notable presence: Frank McCourt, owner of Olympique de Marseille, will attend in person the opening Ligue 1 match against Strasbourg this Friday evening (20:45), a significant first since his takeover of the club in 2016.
Frank McCourt will be present at the Stade Vélodrome this Friday evening for OM’s home match against Strasbourg, the club’s first official match in Ligue 1 2026-2027. The American owner, unaccustomed to making the trip to Marseille since his takeover of the club in 2016, has chosen to attend in person the start of Bruno Genesio’s new season.
According to L’Équipe, McCourt will take his place in the Phocaean stadium on the occasion of this opening day of the championship, a strong gesture interpreted as a sign of increased involvement in the ongoing sporting project.
On the sporting front, Genesio will have to manage without two important players for this first fixture. Leonardo Balerdi is unavailable due to a calf injury, while Quinten Timber is serving a suspension. On the other hand, Geoffrey Kondogbia, absent from training on Wednesday, is ultimately available and could feature in the squad.
