Mbappé on Zidane as coach: "It's like a movie"
Present at Clairefontaine for the first France squad gathering under Zinedine Zidane, Kylian Mbappé expressed his enthusiasm at reuniting with the man who had recruited him to Real Madrid at age 13.
Kylian Mbappé made no attempt to hide his emotion at the prospect of reuniting with Zinedine Zidane, now France’s head coach, during the first Blues squad gathering at Clairefontaine on Monday. The Real Madrid striker spoke to Spanish daily AS before joining the group of 23 players called up for this September international window.
The bond between the two men dates back nearly fifteen years. “Zizou was the first to come and get me to take me to Real Madrid’s training centre. I was 13 or 14 years old, so that was an eternity ago. And today, he’s my coach. It’s like a movie!” Mbappé said.
The striker also addressed the transition that Zidane’s arrival represents after years under Didier Deschamps. “It’s a new era with a new coach. We’ll see how it goes, and it will be new for everyone because we’ve only known Didier Deschamps until now. It will be a change for us, but I think everything will go very well,” he added.
For this first gathering, the Blues will play four Nations League matches in eleven days: a trip to Turkey on September 25, then to Belgium on September 28, before hosting Italy on October 2 and the Red Devils on October 5 at Stade de France.
