Mapletoft names England A coaching staff for Argentina XV clash in Bath
Mark Mapletoft has confirmed the coaching team for England A's match against Argentina XV at The Rec on November 6, retaining the core staff from last season's programme.
Mark Mapletoft has named his coaching staff for England A’s opening fixture of the 2026/27 programme, with the side set to face Argentina XV at The Rec in Bath on November 6.
James Lightfoot Brown will lead the attack, Adam Powell the defence, James Craig the forwards, and Nathan Catt the scrum. Lightfoot Brown, Powell and Craig all featured in last season’s England A matches against All Blacks XV, Spain and Ireland XV, while Catt has previous experience with the A side from fixtures against Australia A and Spain. Away from the international pathway, Lightfoot Brown coaches at Gloucester, Powell at Saracens, Craig at Northampton Saints, and Catt works within the England pathway structure.
Mapletoft cited continuity as a key factor in retaining the bulk of last season’s staff ahead of what he expects to be a demanding test.
“It’s always a real privilege to be involved with England A and we’ve assembled an exciting coaching group who will bring a great mix of knowledge and experience into the environment,” Mapletoft said. “We’ve maintained a consistent approach in our staffing for this game, and it is just reward for these coaches’ immense, impactful contributions across the programme last season.”
“Argentina XV will provide us with a strong challenge and exactly the type of test we want for this group of coaches and players. These fixtures are an important opportunity to step into an England environment, challenge at a high level and show what they can do.”
The playing squad for the Bath fixture has not yet been announced. The match falls two days before Steve Borthwick’s senior side open the northern leg of their Nations Championship campaign against Australia.
