Glasgow Warriors in talks to extend Scotstoun lease to 2032 with stadium expansion plans
Glasgow Warriors are negotiating a new four-year lease extension at Scotstoun with Glasgow Life, keeping them at the 7,261-capacity venue until at least 2032, while plans to relocate the running track could unlock significant stadium redevelopment.
Glasgow Warriors are closing in on a lease extension that would keep them at Scotstoun Stadium until at least 2032, with managing director Kenny Brown confirming talks with Glasgow Life — the leisure arm of Glasgow City Council — are at an advanced stage.
The Warriors’ current lease runs until 2028, but Brown told Scotland Rugby News that a new four-year deal is close to being finalised. Glasgow have called Scotstoun home since 2012, and the 2016 Pro12 champions and 2024 URC winners have increasingly felt the pressure of a venue that holds just 7,261 spectators — a figure that rose to 11,000 when the stadium hosted a scaled-back Commonwealth Games this summer.
Beyond simply extending the lease, the club has ambitions to reshape the ground itself. Brown indicated that relocating the running track that currently surrounds the playing surface is a live project being pursued in conjunction with the local authority, and one that could meaningfully increase capacity and improve the matchday experience.
“There is a working project on the track and the relocation of the running track,” Brown said. “If there is an opportunity to move the track, which we are working on in conjunction with the local authority, that unlocks significant opportunity for us to improve match day experience here. That is a big ambition for us, to work through a project that will allow us to relocate the track and redevelop much of the site.”
A spokesperson for Glasgow Life confirmed the club’s intention to remain at Scotstoun, stating: “As part of the ongoing relationship between Glasgow Warriors and Glasgow Life, which will see Warriors home games played at Scotstoun again this season, we are working with the club to renew their lease.”
One tangible upgrade has already been completed. A new pitch — costing £350,000 — has been installed at the ground, with the cost shared between the Warriors, Glasgow Life, and the Commonwealth Games organisation. Brown said the old surface was nearing the end of its lifespan and that the replacement, finished last week, has drawn strong early feedback.
“We came to a funding agreement between ourselves, Glasgow Life, and Commonwealth Games to replace the pitch,” he said. “The pitch was completed last week and the feedback has been great. It’s a big improvement from where we were.”
While the lease extension and track relocation project remain works in progress, the direction of travel is clear: Glasgow Warriors intend to stay at Scotstoun and invest in making it a more competitive top-flight venue.
