Manchester United collapsed 3-0 at Old Trafford on Sunday in the 8th round of the Premier League, losing to Bournemouth and dropping to 16th place in the standings. Pressure on Michael Carrick has never been greater, and Manchester’s board have reportedly already drawn up a list of potential successors.

Bournemouth did the job in the first half: Rayan opened the scoring in the 38th minute, before Marcus Tavernier doubled the lead five minutes later. Adrien Truffert took advantage of a slip by Leny Yoro to find an open path to goal. Evanilson sealed the score in the 71st minute, giving Bournemouth a victory as clear-cut as it was ruthless.

Bruno Fernandes, left on the bench until the final whistle after his public criticism of the coaching staff’s tactical choices following the defeat to Como in the Ligue des Champions, watched his teammates collapse without being able to intervene. Youri Tielemans, replaced at half-time by Matheus Cunha, had made little impact on the match either. In the league, United have not won since 30 August and their 5-2 victory over Ipswich, since stringing together two defeats and four draws.

According to The Telegraph, a shortlist of three names has been submitted to the board: Eddie Howe, Unai Emery — currently in charge at Aston Villa — and German Julian Nagelsmann. Two of these three managers have reportedly already given their agreement in principle. The name of Didier Deschamps, three months after the end of his reign as head of the French national team, is also circulating in some British media, but his profile appears at odds with the priorities set out by the club.
