Flick calls up 17-year-old prodigy Orian Goren for Clasico against Real Madrid
With Dani Olmo sidelined by an adductor injury sustained in Paris, Hansi Flick has called up Israeli midfielder Orian Goren, 17, for the first time for the Liga Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid this Sunday.
Hansi Flick has called up young Israeli midfielder Orian Goren, 17, for the first time for the Liga Clasico between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid this Sunday evening at Camp Nou (21:00).
The decision follows an adductor injury to Dani Olmo, sustained during the defeat to PSG (4-2) on Tuesday in the Ligue des Champions — Barcelona’s first loss after eleven consecutive victories across all competitions. The Spanish international joins an already depleted infirmary: Eric Garcia, Jules Koundé, Andreas Christensen and Roony Bardghji are also unavailable.
Formed at La Masia, Goren is described by Mundo Deportivo as one of the most promising players in the Catalan academy’s ranks, with some already seeing him as Pedri’s successor. Since Wednesday, he has been training with the senior squad, without yet having played a single official match with the first team. “His main strength lies in his intuition and his ability to make himself available,” the Madrid sports daily notes about him.
His inclusion in the squad for this season’s first Clasico represents a show of confidence from Flick in his young prospect, even if his chances of playing this Sunday evening remain very limited.
