Jamie Carragher believes Michael Carrick’s tenure as Manchester United manager has become ‘untenable’ after his side were beaten 3-0 by Bournemouth, with the pundit claiming Carrick himself wants to be dismissed.

Carragher was unsparing in his assessment, arguing that Carrick has effectively lost the will to continue in the role. “He doesn’t want to be sitting in the dugout again for Manchester United with those players,” Carragher said. “What we’re watching now is a situation where it becomes untenable for everybody.”

The former Liverpool defender went further, pointing to the awkward dynamics Carrick would face inside the club’s training ground. “Nobody is actually enjoying watching Michael Carrick at the moment. Can you imagine going into the training ground tomorrow and facing Bruno Fernandes after not bringing him on in that situation?”

“He doesn’t want to be involved in that,” Carragher added. “He wants to be put out of his misery tonight.”

The 3-0 loss to Bournemouth deepens the pressure on Carrick, whose decision-making — including the handling of substitutions — has drawn sharp criticism. The defeat leaves United’s season in an increasingly precarious position, and Carragher’s comments reflect a growing sense among pundits that a managerial change may now be a matter of when, not if.
