Manchester United scout Troy Parrott at Real Betis as Sesko injury deepens striker concern

Manchester United have sent scouts to watch Real Betis forward Troy Parrott, 24, as Benjamin Sesko's ongoing injury leaves the club short of reliable centre-forward options. The Republic of Ireland international carries a £67.5m release clause after a £17m summer move from AZ Alkmaar.

Manchester United have dispatched scouts to Spain to monitor Real Betis forward Troy Parrott, with the club understood to be searching for a No.9 capable of making an immediate impact as Benjamin Sesko’s injury problems continue to bite.

Parrott, 24, only joined Betis in the summer for £17m after a prolific spell at AZ Alkmaar, where he scored 51 goals in 97 appearances across all competitions. Since arriving in La Liga, the Republic of Ireland international has kept up that form, contributing two goals and one assist in seven matches for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, who have collected 19 points from a possible 24 in the league this season.

According to Spanish outlet Fichero, Parrott’s displays have sparked serious interest from the Premier League, with United believed to be firmly in the running. The report claims United officials have been present at Betis fixtures in both La Liga and the Champions League to assess his suitability, with his link-up play, physical strength, and clinical finishing cited as key attributes that fit the profile the club are targeting.

Parrott left Tottenham in 2024 on a £6.7m permanent deal to join AZ Alkmaar, and Spurs are now said to be among the clubs considering a move to bring him back to north London as Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attacking options. United, however, are also firmly in the picture.

The interest comes against the backdrop of Sesko’s continued absence through injury, with legitimate concerns at Old Trafford over when the Slovenian will return to full fitness. United opted against signing a backup centre-forward during the summer transfer window and retained Joshua Zirkzee as their alternative option despite widespread expectation that the Dutch forward would leave on deadline day — a decision that has drawn criticism from sections of the fanbase.

Despite the scouting activity, there is no suggestion at present that United are ready to make a formal approach. Parrott is contracted to Betis until 2031, and his release clause is set at £67.5m — a figure likely to give prospective buyers, United included, cause for pause.
