Manchester United has confirmed its interest in Aurélien Tchouaméni, Real Madrid’s defensive midfielder, according to the Daily Mail. The player ranks high on the list of targets for United’s recruitment team, who are looking to fill the void left by Casemiro, who departed on a free transfer at the end of the season.

United’s first priority was Mateus Fernandes. The Portuguese international ultimately chose Tottenham, who spent €98 million to secure his services — a club record for the London side. The Red Devils have therefore turned to other options, including Alex Scott (Bournemouth), who is also being courted by Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham. Bournemouth is not willing to sell at this time.

The Tchouaméni situation is even more complex. It all depends on Real Madrid’s strategy, which is considering parting with one of its French midfielders this summer — either Eduardo Camavinga or Tchouaméni. The merengue club has not yet decided.

Under contract until June 2028, the French World Cup winner is valued at €70 million on the market. His market value and the length of his contract give Real Madrid a strong negotiating position. As is often the case in such matters, the final say will rest with the player himself.

This transfer market activity comes as United, who finished third in the Premier League last season under Michael Carrick, will compete in the Ligue des Champions next season and are keen to significantly strengthen their midfield.
