Manchester United have confirmed that goalkeeper Andre Onana will spend the 2025-26 season on loan at Trabzonspor for the second year running, with no purchase option attached to the deal.

Onana, 30, was first sent to the Turkish club last summer after a difficult two-year spell at Old Trafford. Manager Ruben Amorim had already effectively ended his time as first choice by installing Senne Lammens in goal in October, a position the Belgian has held since. With a permanent exit failing to materialise, a second loan was agreed last week, though official confirmation was delayed while Onana was on holiday.

The Cameroon international made 40 appearances for Trabzonspor last season. His return is structured as a straight loan arrangement — unlike some previously agreed moves, there is no option for Trabzonspor to make the deal permanent at the end of the campaign. When Onana comes back to Old Trafford in 2026, he will have one year remaining on his United contract.

Financially, United stand to receive a loan fee of up to €1.5 million (£1.28m), though that figure is contingent on performance-related clauses — specifically, Trabzonspor winning the Turkish league or qualifying for the Champions League. The Turkish club are also expected to cover the majority of Onana’s wages, with his full salary potentially covered should those same clauses be triggered.

“Everyone at United wishes Andre the best of luck for the campaign ahead,” the club said in a brief statement confirming the exit. The loan remains subject to international clearance and registration.
