Manchester City could shatter six transfer records before the summer window closes

Manchester City are on course to rewrite their own transfer history before the summer window closes, having already set new club records for their most expensive purchase and their highest single-window sales total, with several more milestones within reach over the next seven days.

Elliot Anderson’s £116m arrival from Nottingham Forest eclipsed the £100m City paid for Jack Grealish in 2021 to become the club’s costliest signing. The deal had been months in the making, with City fending off interest from Manchester United and others to secure Anderson as their primary midfield target following the departures of Rodri and Bernardo Silva.

On the sales side, Savinho’s £75m move to Tottenham Hotspur — rising to £85m in add-ons — has already surpassed the previous club record set when Atletico Madrid signed Julian Alvarez for an initial £64m in 2023. That deal has also pushed City’s total summer income beyond £250m, breaking their previous single-window record of around £200m set in 2024, with the figure potentially climbing to £280m in conditional payments.

Further sales could yet arrive. Nico Gonzalez is expected to complete a £50m move to Newcastle, while Omar Marmoush is close to joining Tottenham, potentially on an initial loan. Should those deals go through, City would threaten Chelsea’s Premier League record for total sales in a single window, set last year at £314m.

Despite the volume of outgoings, City’s spending is set to exceed their income. Completed deals for Ayyoub Bouaddi and Allan have already taken their outlay beyond £250m, surpassing their previous spending record of around £217m. The club are in pursuit of Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, and the fee Chelsea are demanding would push City’s total expenditure close to £400m — approaching Liverpool’s Premier League record of £446m spent last summer.

At least one forward and a further midfielder remain on City’s shopping list. If they can complete those additions for a combined fee in the region of £70m, the club would not only set new personal bests for individual and aggregate purchases and sales, but could also break the top-flight records for both categories in a single window.
