Glasner warns Nottingham Forest players to buy in or face sixth manager in a year
Oliver Glasner has issued a blunt ultimatum to his Nottingham Forest squad after a 2-0 defeat at Brentford left them second bottom of the Premier League, admitting he could be sacked if results do not improve.
Oliver Glasner delivered a furious post-match ultimatum to his Nottingham Forest players on Saturday, warning that a sixth manager in under a year will arrive if the squad does not commit to his methods — and openly acknowledging his own position is at risk.
Forest’s 2-0 defeat at Brentford was their fourth loss in five Premier League games, leaving the club second bottom of the table. Glasner, appointed in July as the club’s fifth manager in less than 12 months, described the situation at the City Ground as “s***” and declared he will no longer make concessions in his attempts to turn the season around.
“I feel now maybe I made too many compromises in some stuff,” Glasner said. “I will tell what we want to do, what we have to do. And if the players buy in, I think we can have a turnaround. And if not, the sixth manager will come in.”
The 52-year-old Austrian, who joined Forest after leaving Crystal Palace, was unapologetic about the personal consequences of failure. “Nobody needs to have pity with Oliver Glasner. If I want, I could start in two weeks somewhere else. I won’t do it. But the players, the staff, they remain in the same situation.”
Glasner’s candour carries added weight given the profile of Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who has shown little patience with underperforming managers in the past. Glasner himself has a history of high-profile disputes with club hierarchies, having left Crystal Palace, Wolfsburg, and Eintracht Frankfurt each time following disagreements with his employers.
Forest’s final fixture before the international break is a home match against Manchester City next Saturday, a game that now carries significant pressure for both manager and squad.
