Who is JJ Gabriel’s father?

Jason O’Cearuill is a former professional footballer who came through the youth systems at Leyton Orient and Watford before joining Arsenal in 2006/07. He was named as an unused substitute in the Gunners’ League Cup third-round tie against West Bromwich Albion but never made a senior appearance for the club. He went on to feature seven times on loan at Brighton and earned two caps for the Republic of Ireland during a post-season tour of the United States in 2007 — three years before his son was born. O’Cearuill later moved to Barnet before dropping into non-league football, retiring from the game in 2016.

Gabriel’s rise at Old Trafford

Despite his age, Gabriel had been firmly on the radar of United’s first-team staff over the past 12 months. The club publicly signalled their regard for him when he was presented alongside Cristiano Ronaldo’s son upon both players joining the academy setup.

Premier League age regulations prevented Gabriel from featuring last season, but United had been preparing to integrate him into the senior squad this term. His inclusion in the matchday squad for the Brighton fixture had been the intended next step.
