Man City sign eight but lose 36 as Ndiaye and Allan headline summer overhaul

Manchester City closed the summer transfer window with a significant rebuild, completing eight signings and overseeing 36 departures — a scale of turnover that signals a major shift in Pep Guardiola’s squad.

The headline arrival on deadline day was Iliman Ndiaye from Everton for £60m plus £5m in add-ons, with Brazilian forward Allan Elias from Palmeiras — signed for £32m rising to £34.2m — also confirmed before the window shut. The pair effectively replaced Savinho and Omar Marmoush, who both joined Tottenham earlier in the summer for fees of £75m and £60m respectively.

City’s most expensive incoming deal of the window was Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116m, followed by Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille for £85m. Goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli arrived from Marseille for £1.7m, while three further signings — Mathys Detourbet, Pierce Charles, and Jeremy Monga — were immediately loaned out to Monaco, QPR, and Swansea respectively.

On the outgoing side, the departures of club stalwarts Rodri, Bernardo Silva, and John Stones stand out. Rodri moved to Barcelona for £64.5m, while Silva and Stones both left on free transfers. Nico Gonzalez joined Newcastle for up to £52m, and Tijjani Reijnders headed to Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah for £52m. Manu Akanji joined Inter Milan for £13m and Nathan Ake moved to Fenerbahce for up to £8.5m.

A raft of younger players also departed permanently or on loan. James Trafford joined Leeds United for £40m, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey and Reigan Heskey both moved to FC Köln, and Issa Kabore signed for Wrexham. Among the loan exits, Jack Grealish returned to boyhood club Everton for the remainder of the season, while Kalvin Phillips joined Sheffield United and Sverre Nypan moved to Lommel.

One deal that had been widely anticipated — the £125m arrival of Enzo Fernandez — was not confirmed before the window closed, with City yet to announce any agreement at the time of writing.
