Mahrez back in starting XI, Amoura sidelined: Algeria revamped for Jordan clash
After a 3-0 drubbing by Argentina, Algeria must respond on Tuesday against Jordan at Levi's Stadium. Coach Petkovic is expected to recall Mahrez to the starting lineup and drop Boudaoui and Belghali, while Amoura is ruled out through injury.
Beaten 3-0 by Argentina in their opening match of the 2026 World Cup, Algeria face Jordan on Tuesday at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco with the obligation to win to stay in contention for the round of 16.
Vladimir Petkovic is expected to make several changes to his starting XI. Rafik Belghali, who struggled on the left side of defence against the Argentines, could give way to Samir Chergui. In midfield, Hicham Boudaoui, who was overwhelmed by Lionel Messi, is also set to be dropped in favour of Ramiz Zerrouki.
The main change concerns Riyad Mahrez. The Algeria captain, absent from the starting lineup against Argentina, is expected to make his return on the left wing, alongside Ibrahim Maza and Amine Gouiri.
The most notable absence remains that of Mohamed Amoura. The Wolfsburg striker, who picked up a thigh injury during training on Saturday, is expected to miss at least the final two group matches for the Fennecs.
Algeria’s probable XI: L. Zidane – Aït-Nouri, Bensebaini, Mandi, Chergui – Chaïbi, Bentaleb, Zerrouki – Maza, Gouiri, Mahrez.
