Liverpool make record £38m bid for Mexico wonderkid Gilberto Mora amid Ndour interest
Liverpool have submitted a bid worth in excess of £38 million for 17-year-old Tijuana forward Gilberto Mora, which would make him Liga MX's biggest export of all time. The Reds are also tracking Fiorentina midfielder Cher Ndour, with Juventus and Crystal Palace among the rivals for his signature.
Liverpool have lodged a record-breaking offer worth more than £38 million for Mexico teenager Gilberto Mora, according to TUDN, a move that would make the Tijuana forward the most expensive player ever to leave Liga MX.
Mora, who turns 18 next week, burst onto the scene at Tijuana in 2024 and made history this summer by becoming the youngest player to represent Mexico at a World Cup. The attacking midfielder, who can also operate on the left wing, has attracted interest from Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid, but TUDN’s report suggests Liverpool have moved ahead of the field with a formal offer.
The same report indicates Mexico head coach Rafael Marquez held Mora back from the national team’s most recent friendlies during the international break, a decision TUDN described as an indication that a transfer is progressing. A January move is understood to be the target, though Liverpool face stiff competition from several of Europe’s biggest clubs to complete the deal.
Separately, Liverpool are monitoring Fiorentina midfielder Cher Ndour, though they will need to see off interest from Juventus and Crystal Palace to land the Italy international. La Repubblica reported that Ndour was the only player at the Stadio Artemio Franchi considered untouchable during the summer transfer window, a stance that may come under pressure in the coming months.
The transfer activity comes as Liverpool prepare to return to Premier League action after a three-week international break. Arne Slot’s side, who won back-to-back league games before the pause, host Manchester City on Sunday looking to maintain their position at the top of the table.
