Lourenco earns UFC contract with predicted first-round knockout at DWCS Week 4
Gabriel Lourenco stopped Charlie Cleveland inside two minutes at Dana White's Contender Series Week 4, landing the right hand he had identified through tape study as Cleveland's key vulnerability.
Gabriel Lourenco made good on his pre-fight prediction, knocking out Charlie Cleveland in the first round of their heavyweight bout at Dana White’s Contender Series Week 4 on 1 September 2026, earning himself a UFC contract in the process.
The 26-year-old Brazilian, fighting out of Chute Boxe, needed just over two minutes to end the contest. A clean right hand dropped Cleveland, and Lourenco followed up with hammer-fists on the ground to force the stoppage, improving his professional record to 8-1.
Lourenco had entered the night with a specific game plan. Working with coach Luciano Ferreira — known in fight circles as “Mutante” — he had identified a recurring flaw in Cleveland’s defence: the American consistently kept his chin high rather than tucking it, leaving him exposed to exactly the punch that ended the fight.
“We had been studying him throughout,” Lourenco said in his post-fight interview. “Coach Luciano ‘Mutante’ is right here… We always knew his head was held high; we knew that at one point [my right hand] was gonna go in… Representing Luciano, representing Chute Boxe will be an honour. I want more knockouts like this.”
The win extended a pattern of Chute Boxe fighters arriving at DWCS with detailed preparation rather than relying solely on physical tools. Lourenco, nicknamed “Black Mamba”, had publicly called a first-round finish before the bout, and the outcome matched the blueprint almost exactly.
Cleveland, who entered at 6-2, was unable to recover once the right hand landed, and the stoppage was not disputed. Lourenco’s UFC contract now sets up a debut on the main roster for the heavyweight prospect.
