Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Belgian goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans from Genk for an initial fee well below the £28m that had previously been mooted, with the 18-year-old set to arrive at Anfield next summer.

Brughmans, a 6ft 7in Belgium Under-19 international, will be loaned back to Genk for the rest of this season to continue his development. The teenager has made just 13 league appearances for the Belgian club, and Liverpool are keen for him to accumulate further first-team experience before making the move permanent.

The signing comes at a time of uncertainty in Liverpool’s goalkeeping department. First-choice keeper Alisson is out of contract next summer, while deputy Giorgi Mamardashvili is attracting interest from Nottingham Forest — though Liverpool are not seeking to accelerate Brughmans’ arrival in response.

Separately, Liverpool are reported to be close to concluding a £106m deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, who has already undergone a medical. Barcola would become the club’s fourth summer signing, joining Jeremy Jacquet, Victor Munoz, and on-loan Ronald Araujo.
