Liverpool have rejected a £30million bid from Nottingham Forest for 19-year-old midfielder Trey Nyoni and confirmed the permanent departure of Stefan Bajcetic to Celta Vigo, as the club moved on multiple fronts before the transfer deadline.

Forest submitted an offer of £25m plus £5m in add-ons for Nyoni, according to The Times, but Liverpool swiftly turned it down. Oliver Glasner’s side are understood to be seeking a replacement for Elliot Anderson, who joined Manchester City for £116m, and Nyoni’s performances caught their attention. The teenager replaced Alexis Mac Allister in the 77th minute of Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with Forest at Anfield last weekend, having been an unused substitute in the season opener against Newcastle United.

Nyoni made his senior debut in the FA Cup in February 2024 and his Premier League bow against Tottenham Hotspur last December, and now has 21 appearances for the club. Despite limited involvement so far, Liverpool view him as a valued squad member who is expected to take on a more prominent role this season following Curtis Jones’ exit.

Bajcetic’s return to Celta Vigo brings to a close a five-and-a-half-year spell on Merseyside that promised much but was repeatedly undermined by injury. Liverpool signed the midfielder from the Spanish club in February 2021, and he made rapid progress through the academy before breaking into the first team under Jurgen Klopp. He made 19 appearances in the 2022-23 season, scoring on Boxing Day in a 3-1 win at Aston Villa, but a serious calf injury restricted him to just three outings the following campaign.

Subsequent loan spells at Red Bull Salzburg and Las Palmas yielded 33 appearances across 2024-25, yet Bajcetic was unable to feature at all in the current season before the permanent deal was agreed. He leaves having made 22 senior appearances for Liverpool and scored once.

“Everyone at LFC wishes Stefan the best of luck for the future,” the club said in a statement confirming his exit.
