Liverpool prepare third bid for Minteh as £70m fee edges Brighton deal closer

Liverpool are closing in on a deal for Brighton winger Yankuba Minteh, with a third bid expected imminently and reports suggesting a fee of over £70 million would be sufficient to secure his signature from the Seagulls.

Journalist Foday Manneh reported on X that Liverpool are “ready to go with an improved and convincing offer” after two previous bids — the most recent understood to be around £50 million — were rejected by Brighton. Minteh himself is described as waiting to formalise personal terms once a fee is agreed between the clubs, with Sport Witness citing £70 million as the likely threshold for Brighton’s acceptance.

Minteh joined Brighton from Newcastle United in 2024 for a reported £30 million, a deal that was part of the same transaction that sent Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest as Newcastle sought to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules. A sale at £70 million would represent more than double Brighton’s original outlay — though the club have shown little urgency to sell, having reportedly turned down over £90 million for Kaoru Mitoma last year.

The 21-year-old Gambian made 66 league appearances across two seasons for Brighton, establishing himself as a dangerous wide forward on the right flank opposite Mitoma. His absence from Brighton’s opening fixture of the season has done little to dampen speculation over his future.

FourFourTwo understands that Minteh is extremely keen to move to one of Europe’s elite clubs and that personal terms are not expected to be a sticking point, though he has not agitated for a transfer.

Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola fielded youngster Rio Ngumoha on the right wing in his first competitive game in charge, but Minteh is considered a more natural fit for that position. The Reds have also been linked with Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola this summer, with Victor Munoz already secured in attack after making his debut for the club at the weekend.

Liverpool return to Premier League action next week against Nottingham Forest.
