Amad and Mbeumo back United to bounce back after ninth consecutive winless match
Manchester United slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Sunday, extending their winless run to nine matches. Winger Amad posted a defiant message on Instagram while forward Bryan Mbeumo pointed to first-half chances as cause for cautious optimism.
Manchester United’s winless run stretched to nine matches after a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge, with goals from Morgan Rogers and a Cole Palmer penalty condemning Ruben Amorim’s side to another Premier League setback.
United started the game well and created a string of first-half chances, but defensive lapses proved costly. Rogers opened the scoring before a Lisandro Martinez error gifted Palmer the opportunity to convert from the spot and seal the result.
Winger Amad addressed the mood at the club in a brief but pointed Instagram story post after the final whistle. “Difficult days weigh on us, but they will never erase what unites us,” he wrote. “The joy of winning again will be all the greater for having waited for it together. I have such faith.”
Forward Bryan Mbeumo was similarly measured in his post-match assessment, acknowledging the frustration while drawing some encouragement from the performance. “A lot of disappointment. I think we’ve done a lot of right things, especially in the first half, especially when we could have been up 1-0 or 2-0,” he said.
“The first half we had a lot of chances, which is a positive. I think the last games we didn’t create a lot but obviously they are a good team with quality.”
Asked whether the squad was suffering from a crisis of confidence, Mbeumo pushed back. “I think every goal hurts. With what we’ve shown today I think we can really be — I won’t say proud — but I think the mentality was there. Everyone worked really hard and we still have to modify some bits on the training ground, work even harder, and we have two very important games coming up.”
The defeat leaves United in a precarious position in the Premier League table, with the nine-game winless streak now representing one of the most difficult stretches the club has endured in recent memory. How they respond in those two upcoming fixtures will go some way to defining the remainder of their season.
