The Ligue 1 match between Lille and Troyes, played on Matchday 4, set a viewership record in China with an average of 2.15 million viewers, according to data from the CSM institute. It is the best performance ever recorded for a French championship match on the Chinese market.

Scheduled on a Sunday at 3 p.m. in France, the match was broadcast at 9 p.m. local time on CCTV-5, the country’s leading sports channel. In total, 13 million people across Chinese territory watched at least one minute of the match.

This result represents a notable breakthrough for Ligue 1 in Asia, as the championship struggles to expand its subscriber base on its domestic market.
