Muniz dedicates Fulham equaliser to unborn child after revealing wife's miscarriage
Rodrigo Muniz scored his first Premier League goal in over a year against Newcastle on Saturday, then revealed his wife had suffered a miscarriage last season — and is now pregnant again.
Rodrigo Muniz ended a 12-month Premier League scoring drought with a flicked equaliser for Fulham against Newcastle at Craven Cottage, then used his post-match interview to share that his wife had suffered a miscarriage last season and is now pregnant again.
The 25-year-old striker’s goal rescued a 1-1 draw for Fulham, his first league strike since August 2025. The long absence was compounded by hamstring surgery in November, which kept him sidelined until February, but the personal toll of the period ran deeper than the physical.
“Last season was really difficult for me,” Muniz told club media. “Now I can say it but I had the surgery, my wife was pregnant last season and unfortunately we lost the baby. But God is good all the time. And now she’s pregnant again. The goal was for my baby and I hope this season will be different than last season.”
Muniz has shown signs of form since returning from injury, scoring against West Ham and AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup before Saturday’s league breakthrough. He has featured in eight of Fulham’s 10 Premier League matches under new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa but is yet to start in the league, a situation he is openly pushing to change.
“I train hard every week to get opportunities to play and I want to play more,” he said. “I cannot control that but I showed to the gaffer I want to play more. And I have to keep training hard for him to say, ‘Okay, now is your time’, and then I’m ready.”
The Brazilian also acknowledged the competitive depth in Fulham’s attacking options, noting the number of players away on international duty and the value of the time Arbeloa gets to work with the squad when the fixture list allows.
“To be a striker, you need to be ready to play five or ten minutes,” Muniz added. “Of course, I want to play more. And I want to start as well.”
Saturday’s goal, and the story behind its dedication, offered a rare and candid glimpse into a difficult year for one of Fulham’s most important attacking players.
