Lazio held by Naples stays top, Milan bounces back at Genoa
Lazio drew 1-1 with Naples in Serie A's 11th round on Sunday but maintains its lead. AC Milan won 2-1 away at Genoa to climb back to fourth place.
Lazio shared the points with Naples (1-1) in Serie A’s 11th round on Sunday, but keeps its place at the top of the standings. AC Milan, for its part, returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory away at Genoa.
On Napoli’s pitch, it was Davide Frattesi who opened the scoring in the 28th minute, becoming his team’s joint second-leading goalscorer in the league this season. But Lazio quickly suffered two blows: the injury exit of Josip Sutalo in the 33rd minute, then an own goal by Alfonso Pedraza in the 48th, on a cross from Noa Lang deflected into his own net (1-1). The score did not change again. In the standings, Lazio remains first; Naples sits in tenth place, fourteen points behind the Romans.
AC Milan, meanwhile, needed a response after its heavy home defeat to Ferencvaros in the Europa League on Thursday (0-2). At Genoa, the Rossoneri settled the matter in six minutes: Alphadjo Cissé opened the scoring in the 13th minute, on an assist from Adrien Rabiot, before Christian Pulisic doubled the lead in the 19th. The reduction in score by Mikael-Egill Ellertsson late in the match (88th) was not enough for the hosts. Thanks to this success, Milan provisionally climbs to fourth place, while Genoa remains thirteenth.
