Létang fined €20,000 after LOSC-PSG controversy

The LFP’s disciplinary commission has ruled: LOSC president Olivier Létang has been fined €20,000 for his conduct during the 2-2 draw conceded against PSG on August 28, at the opening of Matchday 2 of Ligue 1. Lille’s sports coordinator Sylvain Armand has received a one-match conditional suspension from the bench, the referee’s room, and all official duties.

The controversy erupted late in the match, with Lille having been caught out beyond the additional time initially announced. The match referee, M. Wattellier, subsequently filed a detailed report, which was relayed to the LFP by the National Ethics Council (CNE) of the French Football Federation. The refereeing technical department had quickly defused the controversy on the refereeing merits, but the conduct observed around the match continued to fuel the disciplinary proceedings.

In its statement, the LFP clarified that the commission chose this season to prioritize fines over suspensions for club officials, which explains why Létang was not hit with a firm bench ban despite the dual referral — referee’s report and CNE alert — that triggered the proceedings.

LOSC, currently sitting high in the Ligue 1 standings, must now turn the page on this episode and focus on the rest of its season.
