Brighton staged a spectacular comeback to beat Manchester United 3-2 at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening, eliminating the Red Devils from the League Cup after an impressive second-half turnaround.

Michael Carrick’s side had started perfectly with a reshuffled lineup. Shea Lacey (8th minute) and Mason Mount (10th minute) quickly gave Manchester United a two-goal lead. But Charalampos Kostoulas pulled one back just before half-time (45+2), giving the visitors genuine hope heading into the break.

The second half belonged to Brighton. Pascal Gross equalized around the hour mark (65th minute), before Maxim de Cuyper completed the turnaround four minutes later (69th minute). The introductions of Bryan Mbeumo, Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha were not enough to revive a Red Devils side already weakened by their derby defeat to Manchester City.

This home loss confirms a difficult period for United, eliminated from a domestic competition after conceding three goals in twenty-four minutes in their own stadium.

In other matches of the evening, Everton qualified by beating Wolverhampton 1-0, while Aston Villa won away at Coventry.
