Lebosnoyani calls out Jake Matthews after third straight UFC victory at Vegas 123
Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani extended his winning streak to three with a doctor's stoppage TKO over Farman Hasanov at UFC Vegas 123, then immediately called out Australian veteran Jake Matthews as his preferred next opponent.
Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani made it three consecutive UFC victories on Saturday when a ringside doctor stopped his welterweight bout against Farman Hasanov at 2:11 of the third round at UFC Vegas 123 in Las Vegas, then used his post-fight interview to call out Jake Matthews.
The finish came via technical knockout after the doctor intervened, handing Lebosnoyani (12-2) his most emphatic win of the run. His previous two UFC victories — over Philip Rowe and Seok Hyeon Ko — had both come by decision, making the stoppage a notable step forward in his development inside the Octagon.
Lebosnoyani wasted little time identifying his preferred next challenge, pointing to the experienced Australian Matthews as the ideal test of where he stands in the division.
“I know this guy’s got a fight booked, but he’s been in the company for a long time. And I think it would be the next step up,” Lebosnoyani said. “Jake Matthews, finish your fight, and let’s dance, baby.”
Lebosnoyani acknowledged the timing complication himself: Matthews (23-8) is already committed to a bout against Tahir Abdullayev at UFC Fight Night 294 on 21 November in Doha, Qatar. The 32-year-old Australian is coming off a unanimous decision win over Carlston Harris in May, and his record of more than 30 UFC appearances makes him exactly the kind of established name a rising contender targets to build credibility.
Whether the matchup materialises will depend on both fighters coming through their respective next assignments, but Lebosnoyani has made his ambitions clear at a moment when momentum is firmly on his side.
