Le Mans held their own against Brest in Ligue 1’s opening day, drawing 2-2 with the Breton club. The promoted Le Mans side, back in the top flight, avoided defeat against a Brest team now accustomed to European competition.
Le Mans’ starting XI was as follows: Kocik in goal, a defence comprising Boissé, Eyoum and Bamba, a midfield built around Buades, Lauray, Bourabaa and Larouci, and an attacking trio of Rabillard, Mafouta and Gueye.
Brest lined up with Selvik in goal, a four-man defence with Lala, Le Guen, Tousart and Locko, Nonge and Chotard in midfield, and an attacking sector comprising Del Castillo, Doumbia, Mboup and Ajorque up front.
This result is an encouraging sign for Le Mans, who begin this Ligue 1 season with the ambition of securing survival. Sharing the points with Brest on opening day confirms that the promoted side intends to be competitive in the fight for survival.
