Larsonneur out and Eymard relapse: Saint-Etienne depleted ahead of Guingamp trip
Ligue 2 leaders Saint-Etienne travel to Guingamp on Saturday evening (8 p.m.) without goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur, sidelined by a knee sprain, and midfielder Paul Eymard, who has suffered a relapse from a tibia fracture.
Saint-Etienne face the 11th round of Ligue 2 with a string of injuries complicating matters for manager Ian Cathro ahead of the trip to Guingamp on Saturday evening at 8 p.m.
The biggest blow concerns Gautier Larsonneur. The Greens’ number one goalkeeper is suffering from a right knee sprain and will be absent for an indefinite period. “He will have to go through several stages to recover, he will need to strengthen the affected leg and undergo rehabilitation. We will conduct regular assessments, and perhaps in three or four weeks we will know if a return is close or not,” the Saint-Etienne coach said at a press conference.
The situation of Paul Eymard is equally concerning. The young midfielder has relapsed after the tibia fracture sustained at the end of last season and will not make the trip to Brittany. Tamar Svetlin, who suffered an Achilles tendon injury, is also ruled out.
The only positive note for Ian Cathro: the return of Sohaib Naïr to the available squad.
Despite these absences, Saint-Etienne remain firmly at the top of the championship, with a four-point lead over their closest challenger.
