DNCG blocks OM from winter recruitment, meagre summer budget expected
Under financial constraints from the DNCG, Olympique de Marseille should be unable to recruit during the January transfer window. The club hopes to convince the financial watchdog before Christmas, and would have a limited budget for summer 2027.
Olympique de Marseille should be barred from any recruitment during the January transfer window, according to insider Mohamed Toubache-Ter. After a summer without a single signing, the club remains under the restrictive supervision of the DNCG, French football’s financial watchdog.
Marseille’s management has not given up on the idea of completing at least one deal this winter. They hope to convince the DNCG before Christmas in order to gain some room for manoeuvre, however limited. “Marseille should normally not be able to recruit this winter even if the club hopes to convince the DNCG before Christmas in order to be able to do a small deal,” Toubache-Ter specified on X.
The prospect of an immediate reinforcement therefore remains highly uncertain, and the Phocaean club would approach the second half of the season with the current squad, unless there is a turnaround in the coming weeks.
A slight improvement is emerging, however, for the summer transfer market. According to the same source, OM could have a dedicated recruitment budget for summer 2027, even if it remains particularly limited. “For next summer: the club will have a meagre budget but a budget nonetheless,” he indicated.
This signal above all confirms the scale of the financial overhaul awaiting the Olympique management. The lasting restoration of the club’s accounts would still take time, and recruitment ambitions would remain conditional on progress made on this front in the coming months.
