Koundé Benched at Barcelona, Five Premier League Giants Circling
Sidelined from his starting role at Barcelona and out of favour with France, Jules Koundé has caught the attention of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.
Jules Koundé is going through the worst spell of his career: benched at FC Barcelona by Eric Garcia, then displaced from France’s right flank by Pierre Kalulu, the French international sees his status as an undisputed starter crumbling on both sides of the Pyrenees.
This poor form has not gone unnoticed by English recruiters. According to Catalan newspaper Sport, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United are monitoring the situation of the 27-year-old defender (57 caps). Five top-tier suitors that illustrate Koundé’s intact reputation despite his current difficulties.
The former Bordeaux player is under contract with Barcelona until 2030, and the Catalan club has no intention of letting him go on the cheap. Still according to Sport, Blaugrana would remain open to a departure, but only if a convincing offer materialised. No formal negotiations are underway at this stage.
Koundé himself had addressed this difficult period in a press conference, calling it a personal challenge. It remains to be seen whether his return to form will come from improved performances at Barcelona or from a move to the Premier League in the next transfer window.
