Jordan Pickford has pleaded guilty to driving without due care or attention after his £200,000 Lamborghini Urus nearly caused a collision in the Cheshire town of Knutsford on 14 April. The England and Everton goalkeeper ignored a give way sign at the junction of Princess Street and Toft Road, forcing two vehicles to slam on their brakes, before accelerating away.

A Cheshire Police officer, Pc Cecil Ricardo, witnessed the incident first-hand. In court documents, he stated he was stationary on Bexton Road when he saw Pickford’s blue Lamborghini Urus — identifiable by its personalised number plates — fail to yield at the junction. “It reached the junction with Toft Road, completely ignored the give way lines and pulled onto Toft Road causing two vehicles to slam on their brakes to avoid a collision,” Pc Ricardo wrote. “The Lamborghini then sped down Toft Road, Knutsford.”

Pc Ricardo activated his lights and siren and gave chase, noting the Lamborghini was travelling at a speed that left his own vehicle — already doing 50mph — still falling behind. The speed limit on that stretch of Toft Road is 30mph. Pickford appeared to notice the pursuing police car and pulled over.

The 32-year-old goalkeeper entered his guilty plea in writing through the Single Justice Procedure and requested an in-person hearing to present mitigating circumstances. He told Warrington Magistrates’ Court: “I would like to attend court to put forward my mitigation.” The case was formally adjourned last week and is listed for a hearing at Chester Magistrates’ Court on 7 December.

Pickford, who has made 336 appearances for Everton and earned 92 caps for England, began his career at Sunderland before loan spells at six clubs including Burton Albion, Bradford City and Preston North End. He has represented England at the 2018, 2022 and 2026 World Cups and was in goal for the country’s Euro 2020 and Euro 2024 final appearances.
