King Green turned a near-certain defeat into a first-round stoppage at UFC 329, finishing Terrance McKinney at 4:59 of round one — with just one second remaining on the clock — after surviving one of the most one-sided opening spells of his career.

McKinney came out hunting from the opening bell, landing a punch that opened a cut on Green’s head before following up with a heavy uppercut and hard body shot. Green’s face was covered in blood as McKinney pressed forward relentlessly, eventually securing a takedown and moving into mount, where he unleashed a flurry of punches and briefly attempted a rear-naked choke.

A second submission attempt from McKinney gave Green the window he needed to escape. Back on his feet with time running down, Green found his opening — a devastating kick to the body followed by a punch that sent McKinney crumpling to the canvas. Green poured on the follow-up shots until referee Kerry Hatley stepped in to stop the contest.

“I was just getting warmed up,” Green said afterwards. “I know he’s tough when he’s fresh and first comes out. It’s only going to be a matter of time before I catch up to him. I feel great.”

Green was already looking ahead before the post-fight interview was over. “I want to fight on the LA card in September. I’m going to keep doing this stuff all year long.”

The victory extends Green’s winning streak to four and adds McKinney to a résumé that continues to grow with dramatic late finishes.
