Kane equals Shilton's 125-cap record as England host Czech Republic at Wembley
Harry Kane captains England for his 125th international appearance against Czech Republic at Wembley, drawing level with Peter Shilton as the most-capped player in England's history. The 33-year-old striker also closes in on 100 international goals, having scored four times in the current window to reach 89.
Harry Kane equalled Peter Shilton’s all-time England appearance record on Tuesday, captaining the side for his 125th international cap in the UEFA Nations League fixture against Czech Republic at Wembley.
The Bayern Munich striker, who made his England debut against Lithuania in March 2015 aged 21 — scoring on that occasion — joins Shilton at the summit of England’s all-time caps list after a career that has redefined expectations for an English centre-forward.
Kane is also closing in on a century of international goals. Four strikes across the opening three games of the current window brought his total to 89, leaving him 11 short of the landmark.
England manager Thomas Tuchel was effusive in his praise ahead of the milestone. “I’m not sure I have any more words,” Tuchel said. “He’s on the shortlist for the Ballon d’Or. We’ve spoken so often about him and I try to find new words which then make no sense. Everything he does, he does it on the highest level, he does it consecutively.”
Tuchel added that Kane’s move to Bayern Munich had elevated him further still. “Since he took this major role for Bayern Munich, he found a new level. It’s the highest level, on and off the pitch.”
The match itself sees Tuchel make four changes from Saturday’s 7-0 demolition of Croatia. Trent Alexander-Arnold returns at right-back for his first Wembley appearance for England in two years, while Jarell Quansah steps into central defence to cover the injured Ezri Konsa.
Myles Lewis-Skelly earns his third start of the camp in place of the injured Alex Scott, and Morgan Rogers and Eberechi Eze come in on the wings to replace Anthony Gordon and Bukayo Saka.
