Italy defeats Turkey 3-1 and concludes Nations League campaign
Three days after their draw against France at the Stade de France, the Azzurri dominated Turkey in Bologna. Scamacca, Calafiori and Pio Esposito scored Italy's goals in a match that ended 3-1.
Italy concluded its Nations League campaign with a convincing victory over Turkey (3-1) on Monday, October 5 in Bologna. After the draw secured against France at the Stade de France three days earlier, Roberto Mancini’s Nazionale confirmed its growing momentum.
The start was laboured, but Gianluca Scamacca broke the deadlock in the 26th minute to open the scoring for the Azzurri. Italy’s advantage held until the hour mark, when Turk Ahmetcan Şimşir equalized in the 61st minute and restored parity between the two teams.
Italy’s response was immediate. In the 64th minute, Riccardo Calafiori, brought on during the match, restored the advantage to the Squadra Azzurra with a strike that found the target. Late in the match, Francesco Pio Esposito definitively sealed the outcome in the 87th minute, giving Italy a clear and decisive victory.
On the Turkish side, manager Vincenzo Montella failed to reverse the trend despite several changes in the second half. Turkey left Bologna empty-handed and unable to capitalize on their temporary equalization.
Polish referee Szymon Marciniak officiated the match.
