Aimé Jacquet returns to Stade de France for first time since 2022
Rarely seen in recent years, the former world champion coach from 1998 attended Friday's France-Belgium match at Stade de France, surrounded by Laurent Blanc, Robert Pirès and Vincent Candela.
Aimé Jacquet made a rare appearance at Stade de France on Friday evening, taking a seat in the stands to watch the match between the France national team and Belgium. The former France coach, aged 84, had not been seen at a national team match since the Round of 16 of the 2022 World Cup against Poland (3-1), played in Doha.
Seated behind French Football Federation president Philippe Diallo, Jacquet reunited for the occasion with several of his former players from the 1998 generation: Laurent Blanc, Robert Pirès and Vincent Candela were seated near him in the stadium stands.
The man who led France to its first world title between 1993 and 1998 has remained a discreet figure in French football since his retirement. His presence on Friday therefore constitutes an event in itself, notably highlighted by the daily newspaper L’Équipe, as public appearances by the former coach are so rare.
